Raising a family and going to college can be tough to balance. MVC won't let you go in alone; let us help you find the support you need to reach success in both your academic career and in raising your family. Browse a comprehensive list of resources, free programs and support networks, as well as financial assistance in the form of aid and tax breaks.
Federal and State Resources
CalFresh helps put healthy and nutritious food on your table. As an extension of the Federal SNAP program, you must meet federal income requirements to benefit. Applying is simple, can be done online and once approved, you will receive an EBT card in as few as 10 days.
The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition program helps individuals who are pregnant or just had a baby, and children up to age 5 eat well, be active, and stay healthy at no cost. WIC welcomes partners, grandparents, foster parents, or guardians who care for eligible children.
MVC Resources
From special support programs to a host of informational resources, Moreno Valley College can help you find a variety of services that work for your family, situation and schedule.
CalWORKs services include counseling, priority registration, job search and resume assistance, resource referrals, and intensive joint case management with the county GAIN program. The CalWORKs program requires an application and students must have a Current Proof of Cash Aid or a Welfare-to-Work (WTW) GAIN Contract.

The Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS) Program, as well as the Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) Program, provide additional educational and financial support services. The EOPS and CARE programs require application and full-time enrollment. CARE requires students to be AFDC/TANF recipients.

Basic Needs include food, clothing, housing, and financial resources, and summarizes the essential elements that students need to thrive. Students must fill out an intake form to benefit from Monty's Market Food Bank, but there are no eligibility minimums. Supplies are limited each distribution period.
Student Parent Support Group
The Student Parent Support Group is a peer-led and facilitated group for parents to discuss challenges and successes as they attend college. Activities include a book club, clothing exchanges, virtual and in-person meet-ups and more. This group is completely free and open to everyone. Check out the Health & Wellness calendar to find scheduled meetings each term.
MVC’s Early Childhood Education Center offers on-campus childcare services have the dual benefit of providing a safe environment for parents to leave their children while they pursue academic activities. Additionally, qualifying families can benefit from the Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) program with free child care. Applications are processed in the order they are received. Enrollment is not guaranteed due to space limitations.

No matter where you're starting, we can make college more affordable. Benefits range from grants, scholarships, free or reduced tuition, and textbook vouchers, to financial wellness resources and education. Student Financial Services provides all students with assistance with state, federal and scholarship applications.
More Ways MVC Can Help
Priority registration allows select student groups to receive early registration appointments, with a maximum amount of units, during the priority registration period. Enrolling in special support programs such as EOPS and CalWORKs means you're eligible for priority registration. It's important to note, though, that priority registration is never a given and students must maintain eligibility for this benefit.
- Priority Group I: DSS, EOPS, CalWORKs, Veterans, Foster & Homeless Youth, Student Parents. (DSS students receive continuous priority registration access until start of term)
- Priority Group II: ASMVC (officers only), Student Trustee, ACES
- Priority Group III (MVC courses only): ASMVC (without officers), Puente Program, Community Scholars, VA extended, Choir, Umoja, Music Majors, College Promise, FYE, MCHS and NuView continuing students
- General registration appointments begin after the Group III registration period ends.
Not part of a program offering priority registration? You may still qualify for this benefit. Student parents with one or more children under the age of 18 who receive more than half of their support from that student may request priority registration (Ed. Code Section 66025.81). To do so, you may either:
- Indicate your status as a student parent on your college application, or
- Complete the student parent priority registration form before a term's priority registration flag deadline (listed in Admissions timelines).

Your Student Services team is available to help you with your admission, registration and financial aid needs. If you can't make it to campus, log into a virtual ConexEd lobby during business hours. You'll get helped online.
Counseling and educational advising through your school's engagement center is also available.
The Academic Success Center (ASC) is located in the Humanities Building, Room 219 and is open to all current MVC students. The ASC offers an array of services intended to support student success and achievement.
Students are provided with academic support in math, writing, reading, and computer science. In addition to tutors, students have access to computers, pay-for-print stations, and group study cubicles. Textbooks for English, Math, and CIS courses as well as laptops and scientific calculators can be checked out for use within the ASC.
At Moreno Valley College, we recognize that the high costs of textbooks serve as a barrier that impacts student success. To address this, MVC labels zero textbook cost (ZTC) and low textbook cost (LTC) courses.
- ZTC classes have no textbook-related costs, including access fees, workbooks, or manuals.
- LTC courses are those whose required textbooks can be purchased at the MVC Bookstore for $50 or less, in either physical or electronic format.
Students have access to a wide range of books, articles, textbooks as well as technology resources including laptops and Chromebooks to complete classes on, graphing calculators, and mobile chargers. Loans are free of charge though returning an item late without renewing it may result in fees.

Tax Credits
The CalEITC offers support for low-income, working Californians. You may be eligible for up to $3,417 cash back or a reduction of the tax you owe. CalEITC might also enable you to qualify for the Young Child and Foster Youth tax credits.
