Paramedic Program Application Checklist

Get Ready to Complete Your Paramedic Academy Application

Use this checklist to prepare your application to the Moreno Valley College Paramedic Academy. All required documents must be submitted with your application for it to be considered complete. You may print this page for your own reference.

1. Apply to Moreno Valley College

Joining the Paramedic Academy requires you to be a current Moreno Valley College student with an active student account. The MVC application is free. Apply to MVC for the appropriate term before applying to the Paramedic Academy. Student accounts may take up to 72 hours to process, and resolving account holds may take several weeks.

Verify your MVC student status

Check your registration dates in MyPortal to confirm that your MVC application has been processed for the appropriate term.

• Applying for the Fall Academy (May application window): Apply to MVC for the summer session, as you will start classes in the fall semester.
• Applying for the Spring Academy (November application window): Apply to MVC for the winter session, as you will start classes in spring semester.

2. Prepare Your Application Documents

All required documents must be uploaded with your Paramedic Academy application in PDF format unless otherwise noted.

1. High school diploma, GED or equivalent
2. Resume
3. Current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR card
4. Current EMT card
5. Driver's license or government-issued photo ID showing proof of age
6. Written verification of at least 1,000 hours of EMT work experience within the last three years
7. Unofficial transcript showing BIO-45 or an equivalent course completed with a C or better

Document Requirements

• CPR card: No substitute or equivalency is accepted. Your CPR certification must remain current throughout the program. Send updated cards to mvcemsacademy@mvc.edu.
• EMT card: Your EMT certification must remain current throughout the program. Send updated cards to mvcemsacademy@mvc.edu.
• Driver's license or photo ID: Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
• Work experience verification: This is a verification of experience, not a letter of recommendation. If you are submitting experience from multiple employers, combine all verification letters into one PDF before uploading. The letter must:
  • Be on official agency or employer letterhead
  • Be signed by an agency or employer official
  • Include contact information
  • Identify the start and end dates of employment, if applicable
  • State the total number of EMT hours worked
  • Verify at least 1,000 hours of EMT work experience within the last three years

3. Confirm Your EMT Work Experience

Applicants must document at least 1,000 hours of EMT work experience within the last three years. Make sure your employer verification clearly documents the hours and dates of your qualifying experience.

4. Verify Your Course Prerequisites

Supply unofficial transcript showing BIO-45 or an equivalent course completed with a C or better. If BIO-45 or its equivalent is currently in progress, submit an unofficial transcript showing "IP" (in progress). Do not submit screenshots from Canvas or Blackboard.

A full sequence of anatomy and physiology with labs may supersede the BIO-45 prerequisite. Both courses in the sequence must be completed with a C or better. For help determining course equivalency, contact MVC's Evaluations office at mvcevaluations@mvc.edu. If your prerequisite is in progress, submit an updated unofficial transcript to the EMS program at mvcemsacademy@mvc.edu once the course is complete.

We have found that students who have completed the following prerequisites are more successful in the program. While we do not require completion of these courses prior to acceptance into the program, you should understand that our courses are taught with the understanding that you are familiar with the content of these courses.

5. Optional Documents

Before You Submit

• I am a current MVC student with an active student account.
• I have applied to MVC for the appropriate session.
• I have all required documents ready.
• My documents are in the required format.
• I have documentation of at least 1,000 hours of qualifying EMT experience within the last three years.
• I have submitted my BIO-45 or equivalent transcript.
• My CPR and EMT cards are current.
