Movement, Health and Wellness

In studying kinesiology, you will come to understand the body's physiological and biomechanical responses to exercise. Kinesiology faculty strive to educate and inspire our students on the importance of physical activity during the lifespan.

Programs of Study

MVC offers lower-division, university-transferrable courses for four-year degree preparation, to fulfill general education requirements, and to fulfill the degree requirements of the Associate in Arts for Transfer in Kinesiology (AA-T Kinesiology). Kinesiology also offers a certificate for fitness professionals.

The kinesiology associate degree for transfer will stimulate learning and provide necessary skills for the different options of study in the practical field of kinesiology. Students will have knowledge in diverse in topics such as health and fitness, wellness, personal training, pedagogy, sport coaching, and pre-physical therapy.

This degree will assist students with seamless transfer to a CSU.

Kinesiology, Health and Wellness is a collection of courses that emphasize the principles for the growth and development of a healthy lifestyle. Students will acquire the knowledge and understanding problem solving strategies of these principles to integrate, apply and promote personal, individual or group behavior conducive to the maintenance or restoration of mental and physical wellness.

The Fitness Professionals Certificate program gives hands on training and experience to students in preparation for a career in the growing field of fitness.

Students will be taught scientific principles of exercise and physical conditioning, techniques of strength training, nutrition, and methods appropriate to establishing healthy behavior.

This program prepares candidates for the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), and the National Strength & Conditioning Association Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT) certification exams.
