Accreditation Resources
Accreditation involves all members of the campus and the community. This page contains resources for the campus community prepared by the College's accreditation team
What is...?
What is accreditation? The purposes of regional accreditation include encouraging institutions to improve academic quality, institutional effectiveness, and, ultimately, student success. ACCJC evaluation of institutions assures the educational community, the general public, and other organizations and agencies that an institution has clearly defined objectives appropriate to higher education; has established conditions under which their achievement can reasonably be expected; and appears in fact to be accomplishing them; is so organized, staffed, and supported that it can be expected to continue to do so. Who accredits MVC? MVC is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges - Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
How often does accreditation occur? MVC has a six-year accreditation cycle, with required annual and mid-term (3 year) reports. Additional reviews and follow-ups occur as needed, by request of the ACCJC.
An Institutional Self-Evaluation Report (ISER) is submitted to the College's accrediting body, the ACCJC, for the purpose of assisting in the determination of the College's accreditation status. The ISER evaluates our alignment to the accrediting commission's requirements and standards.
Annual accreditation reports are submitted to the ACCJC to demonstrate continued effort and data-based evidence of progress in the institutions' goals related to accreditation, continuous improvement of education quality, and institutional effectiveness.
Accreditation standards are the basis for comprehensive institutional evaluations for reaffirmation of accreditation and may be used by institutions wishing to develop a baccalaureate degree. There are four standards:
- Standard 1: Institutional Mission and Effectiveness
- Standard 2: Student Success
- Standard 3: Infrastructure and Resources
- Standard 4: Governance and Decision-Making
