About PC832

The PC832 Arrest and Firearms course is the minimum training standard for California peace officers, specified in Commission Regulation 1005. PC832 consists of two components totaling a minimum of 64 hours. MVC breaks PC832 training into two components: Arrest, Search and Seizure (ADJ-P4A) and Firearms (ADJ-W10A).

  • At least 20 students must attend the first day of class to proceed with the session. If this threshold is not met, the class will be cancelled. Notification will be sent to students.
  • Courses are offered based on scheduled attendance. Once scheduled, failure to attend or cancel at least ten days prior to the start of the class will result in a charge for the full course fee, less any applicable college unit fees. An alternate student, from the same agency, may fill the reservation.

This class requires that every student obtain a Department of Justice (DOJ) clearance letter, which can be completed and requested through a process known as a Live Scan. MVC has provided a prepared Live Scan form and nearby locations. MVC will not refund any Live Scan fees.

Once your clearance letter is received and your ability to possess a firearm in California verified, bring your firearm and Department of Justice (DOJ) clearance letter to the first day of class. You will not be permitted to take the firearms course without a current letter dated within 6 months of the start of the class. Any letter older than 6 months will not be accepted.

Live Scan Fingerprint Form (pdf)  Live Scan Locations (pdf)

  • How to complete the form: The DOJ form you are provided with has three sections. You must fill out ONLY the second section. Complete it in full with your personal information; nothing may be missing. MVC has filled out the top section and this information must NOT be altered. The third section is filled out by the person conducting the Live Scan.
  • Restrictions on firearm possession: Any student convicted of a felony and certain misdemeanors will not be allowed to possess a firearm in California.
  • How does Live Scan work? To receive a clearance letter, complete the Live Scan Fingerprint Form as instructed. Then, print the form and visit a Live Scan location to be fingerprinted. The facility will forward your fingerprints to the DOJ. The DOJ will send you a letter declining or allowing you to possess a firearm in California. Allow up to 4 weeks for DOJ fingerprint processing. Scan and copy the original letter and bring it with you on the first day of class.
  • No agency exceptions: Agency letterheads are not accepted. All agency-sponsored students need to obtain a DOJ clearance letter.
