Student Leader John Paul Rosales Honored with Student Leadership Award

A Moreno Valley College student has been named one of four recipients statewide of the California Community Colleges Student Leadership Award, recognized for excellence in advocacy, service, and civic engagement.
John Paul Rosales was honored March 27, 2026, at the Student Senate for California Community Colleges General Assembly in San Francisco. The annual award highlights students who demonstrate exceptional leadership and service within the state’s community college system.
At Moreno Valley College, Rosales serves on the outreach team and mentors student workers. His campus involvement is paired with a background in health care and emergency services. He is a certified emergency medical technician through the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office and a certified nursing assistant through Riverside City College.
In addition to his academic and campus commitments, Rosales works in the emergency department at Loma Linda University Health, where he is recognized by colleagues for maintaining composure in high-pressure situations and providing compassionate patient care.
California Community Colleges Chancellor Sonya Christian noted that the honorees reflect a deep commitment to service across their campuses and communities.
“Students like them remind me why our collective efforts matter and why the future of our colleges is in capable hands,” said Jerry Reyes, president of the Student Senate for California Community Colleges.
Each honoree receives a $1,250 award and a commemorative plaque. Rosales was recognized alongside fellow winners Kristopher Evans of Cabrillo College, Ode Tso Kunthar of Contra Costa College, and Valerie Pamphile of Barstow Community College.
